Gabriele Heads Our Company Cafeteria
You can find out what Gabi’s job involves, what makes it so enjoyable and why she is so glad to work at KNAPP right here!
What are your main
responsibilities?
My day starts at 6 a.m. with receiving the first deliveries. We do a lot of the cooking right here with fresh ingredients. I work with Gourmet to plan the menu, making sure there is a variety of dishes and that all the favorites are there, for example, chili con carne and beef goulash are very popular with our colleagues. Naturally, the grilled chicken is always a highlight. We offer five different menus from hearty to vegetarian. We serve more than a hundred sandwiches and snacks and more than 1,000 set menus daily. During the lunch rush, I help with serving food; all hands are needed, so we all work together. We also cook for the kids at the kindergarten. I check all the invoices and help with event planning as well since the company cafeteria has also been used as an event location for some time now.
What kind of education, experience or interests should you have for your job?
We have a lot of career changers on our team. Kitchen experience is advantageous. Being communicative, friendly and resilient is important. Speed is also needed because we wash and cut 80 heads of lettuce a day. Otherwise, it’s learning by doing. In my case, for example, I completed a commercial apprenticeship.
My Job:
Varied. Creative. Organized.
What do you like most about your job?
I love interacting with so many colleagues and my team and I try to spoil them with culinary delights and treats for the palate. Good food equals a good mood, and helps you work well. This is how my team and I contribute to the success of the company. We also get a lot of positive feedback and appreciation. My work is varied thanks to the many events and culinary theme weeks that we do.
Why do you enjoy working for KNAPP?
Our company cafeteria has become something really special. I am proud of my team and the way they don’t shy away from anything that comes at them. It has been 20 years since I switched jobs to work at KNAPP because I wanted something that was a better match for my family life. Back then in the little kitchen, we were serving 130 menus a day, now it’s more than 1,000. I experienced the unbelievable growth this company has gone through and now I am Team Leader for the company cafeteria with 14 employees working with me.
