Anita is a Software Design Engineer
You can find out what Anita’s job involves, what makes it so enjoyable and why she is so glad to work at KNAPP right here!
What are your main
responsibilities?
As a software design engineer in the Sales Team, I design automated warehouse solutions tailored to our customers’ needs. In the solution design process, I’m responsible for software and processes. I take part in workshops and meetings with our customers and the project team to get the big picture of what our customers need in terms of logistics and processes and assess how the products from our software portfolio can meet these requirements. In the process, I work together closely with other internal departments such as Software Development and Commissioning as well as with our subsidiaries abroad. Based on the gathered information, I then calculate the software and IT costs for the commercial offer.
What kind of education, experience or interests should you have for your job?
You should definitely have a keen interest in technology and software. If you have basic programming skills, then that’s a plus but not a must – I leave the programming to our experts, for instance. However, the ability to think analytically and understand complex processes and interdependencies is crucial for the job as well as being a good listener. You need to be able to grasp the essence of what our customers need and implement it accordingly. Being proficient in other languages apart from German and English is also advantageous, as it allows you to have in-depth conversations with our customers and colleagues from our subsidiaries dotted around the world. Regarding my education, I completed an individual Master’s degree in Production and Logistics at the University of Graz.
Which three words would best describe your job?
Creative. Analytical. Specialized.
What do you like most about your job?
Developing a project is like solving a puzzle. While our customers’ requirements and processes represent the hints or building blocks, the software serves as the link between them. In workshops with our customers, we make sure we establish all these links until we see the bigger picture. Generally speaking, our customers often share the same needs, however there are significant differences at times. Our projects therefore vary a lot depending on the individual requirements. This means we always develop several different solution designs to find the one that is just right for our customer. Software is the brain of every automated warehouse solution, bringing our technologies to life. It’s nice to see when that happens and I’m happy that I’m able to contribute to this.
