What are your main
responsibilities?

I’m responsible for electrical engineering and control systems for our autonomous mobile robots, or Open Shuttles as we call them. We look for ways to improve the control systems, test new controllers or safety features. My main responsibilities include planning and creating the configuration diagrams for our Open Shuttles, and cabling newly developed devices and test assemblies. Collaborating with all experts working on the Open Shuttles, such as the teams in prototype construction and manufacturing, is really important. This means I do many different things on a typical day.

What kind of education, experience or interests should you have for your job?

Any type of technical training focusing on electrical engineering – through an apprenticeship, a specialist school or university. What’s really important though is a keen interest in modern technology, specifically control systems. A solution-oriented frame of mind is also key for this line of work. It’s useful to know the specific software, such as EPLAN (that we use to create configuration diagrams), but this is something you can easily learn on the job.

My Job:

Exciting. Innovative. Varied.

What do you like most about your job?

I love that I get to switch between my office and the workshop – planning diagrams on my computer one day, cabling Open Shuttles the next. When all the hard development work is done, it’s always exhilarating to watch our Open Shuttles cruise around. Then it’s time to celebrate our success together as a team. It makes us proud to know that our Open Shuttles are doing their job at our big-name customers’ installations all around the globe.

Why do you enjoy working for KNAPP?

I like how we work together to find the best solutions, bouncing ideas off each other, sometimes over a nice cup of coffee. We are a team that sticks together, not just at work, but also for fun activities like the “Grazathlon” obstacle race in Graz, Austria. Our informal work environment and the motivation to develop new logistics solutions at the cutting edge of technology are what makes KNAPP a great place to work for me.
