What are your main
responsibilities?

I don’t really have an average day since each day is different. It varies a lot since we’re always working with different departments or in the apprentice workshop. We start each day with a quick briefing on what’s on for that particular day. For our work, we use vernier calipers, triangles, steel squares as well as CAD and CAM systems to design parts digitally and make them later on. We process different metals manually and using CNC machining techniques such as milling, grinding and turning.

What kind of education, experience or interests should you have for your job?

You can start an apprenticeship either right after completing compulsory education (9 years) or later, you’re free to choose. As long as you’re interested in the technical field and feel comfortable working, you’re good to go. As a kid, I wanted to become an inventor. I watched and learned a lot from my two grandpas, who were handy craftsmen, and developed an interest in mechanical engineering. After completing high school, I studied mechanical engineering at university for two semesters before I decided to switch to an apprenticeship. I wanted to start working sooner.

My Job:

Varied. Important. Inventive.

What do you like most about your job?

I love working on my own projects and on the entire process of creating a new product. So far, the apprenticeship has been very exciting. It’s also a nice place to work as the team is very open and friendly and I get along well with my superiors. There’s always time for a good laugh. I also had the chance to spend four weeks in Fukuoka, Japan this year for my apprenticeship as part of an Erasmus internship.

Why do you enjoy working for KNAPP?

We’re like a big family who don’t just work together, but have fun too. One of the highlights was the team building event at Lake Millstatt.

Three employees toss blocks of wood labelled with knapp.com in the direction of the camera.
