Diesel Technic SE, specialist for commercial vehicle spare parts and accessories, has commissioned KNAPP to extend their central warehouse in Kirchdorf, Germany. Two rack line systems and two Pick-it-Easy work stations will expand the existing KNAPP OSR Shuttle™.
Back in 2018, Dr. Steffen Vondran, CEO of Diesel Technic and Heimo Robosch, Executive Vice President of KNAPP, signed the contract for the first automation project at the CeMAT fair. The original shuttle solution was designed to allow growth and has been in operation since early 2020. Thanks to forward-thinking in the design, the extension can be implemented with minimum impact on the running system. The system in its initial design included 41,000 storage locations and five Pick-it-Easy Shop work stations. The extension adds two rack line systems and two work stations resulting in a total of 62,000 storage locations. According to Dr. Vondran, the collaboration on the project with KNAPP is an important step: “With the introduction of KNAPP’s shuttle system, we were able to significantly increase our logistics performance and efficiency and, with it, our customer’s satisfaction. The system’s extension is the next logical step for future-proof, reliable logistics. We are really looking forward to the implementation of the project and the work with our partner, the KNAPP AG.”
Partnership for future growth
The storage concept will still be triple-deep and up to 17 metres high. This not only means additional storage locations thanks to more rack line systems, but also a very high storage density. Vehicle parts are supplied from the shuttle system and picked according to the goods-to-person principle. The ergonomic new work stations are from the Pick-it-Easy series allowing intuitive, error-free operation.
“We are very pleased to continue partnering successfully with Diesel Technic with the extension of their existing installation and to assisting the company with their plans for future growth,” says a delighted Heiko Süss, Vice President Wholesale, KNAPP AG. To guarantee smooth operation during construction, the extension work will be carried out during the night and on weekends. Startup of the extension project is slated for autumn 2023.
