Technology company KNAPP is dedicated to promoting research and young talent by providing an innovative storage system to the university in Leoben. The project was installed on December 6 and will serve as a practice setting for the different departments as well as for the further development in mechatronics and industrial logistics.
Practical logistics training
Thanks to the partnership with KNAPP and the new modular storage system NoyesStorage S, students can familiarize themselves with logistics systems in live operation during their studies and solve tasks directly on the systems. This gives students a head start in terms of knowledge and experience, and complements the existing practice-oriented program at Montanuniversität Leoben. “The new storage system from KNAPP is an absolute boon to the intralogistics professors and their students. It can be used in research on the applications of the technology as well as for practical work and gives students access to cutting-edge technologies,” states professor Helmut Zsifkovits, Head of Industrial Logistics at the university.
NoyesStorage – the flexible rack system
As an automated storage system, NoyesStorage is used to automate areas such as floored racks and to eliminate inefficiencies in logistics. There are four main components: the rack system, the NoyesBots, load carriers and the user interface. The system is easily maintained and can be expanded as needed. The system is easily installed and with a load capacity of 40 kg, the NoyesBot moves goods quickly and reliably and achieves a high packing density.
Building on a long-term partnership
The Montanuniversität Leoben and KNAPP can look back with pride on their successful collaboration, demonstrated through numerous projects and initiatives. The new storage system in the “House of Digitalization”, with the opening celebration planned for summer 2025, will strengthen this partnership further and provide an important contribution to promoting research and education. Cooperation between research and industry produces highly qualified specialists with hands-on experience. Promoting the up-and-coming workforce is not only important for KNAPP but also for the manufacturing industries in Styria. The Montanuniversität Leoben offers high-quality programs of study with selected additional opportunities and many graduates of the program are part of KNAPP’s 8,200 employees. “We are very proud to expand our long-term partnership with the Montanuniversität Leoben. We are committed to investing in research and training and to supporting the next generation of specialists. Innovation and education are the keys to a successful future, and we are delighted to support the Montanuniversität Leoben in this pursuit,” explains Gerald Hofer, KNAPP CEO.
