On March 8, 2013 the KNAPP AG, one of the largest IT employers in Styria, staged the KNAPP Coding Contest for the second time at their Corporate Headquarters and Development Centre in Hart bei Graz. Fifty-five IT enthusiasts puzzled over practical programming challenges that could be worked out in either Java or C#.
The best solution with the fastest time came from Martin Six, telematics student at TU Graz, which earned him the 1,500 Euro prize money. Richard Taupe, last year’s winner from Apen-Adria University in Klagenfurt, was beaten by a narrow margin. He took second place and walked off with 1,250 Euros. Lukas Berger, HTL Villach, won third place and with it 1,000 Euro. Special mention goes to the participants from HTL Pinkafeld. Thomas Tangl was the best of these and placed fourth. The school received a special award for being the training centre with the most participants. Thomas Jahoda from HTL Kaindorf/Sulm won the raffle for a Microsoft Tablet PC.
Contestants later chilled out at the beer and burger bar. In this relaxed atmosphere, the participants learned of stations along a career path in software related occupational fields from planning to development to startup. Software experts from KNAPP AG talked about their career starts and about the challenges of working in a globally operating company. “The event is a springboard into the company. Even when the participants are still in the middle of their education, they find their way to KNAPP through internships or project work,” said Ingo Sport, Head of Human Resources at KNAPP AG.
